What is a BIMI Certificate?

Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) is an email standard that allows organizations to display their verified logo next to their messages in the inbox. To implement BIMI, you need a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) or a Common Mark Certificate (CMC), which validates your ownership of the logo and domain.

VMC (Trademark Required)

The gold standard. Requires a registered trademark. Displays your logo in Gmail, Apple Mail, Yahoo, and more.

CMC (No Trademark)

For brands without a registered trademark. Verified logo display in supported clients (limited vs VMC).

Why Invest in a VMC?

Beyond aesthetics, a Verified Mark Certificate delivers tangible business results.

Stand Out in the Inbox

Grab recipient attention instantly with your logo displayed prominently before the email is even opened.

Boost Open Rates

Brand recognition leads to higher engagement. Emails with BIMI logos see an average 10% increase in open rates.

Protect Brand Reputation

VMC requires DMARC enforcement, preventing phishing and spoofing attacks from damaging your brand.

Gain Customer Confidence

The verified logo acts as a seal of approval, assuring customers the email is legitimate and safe.

Strengthen Marketing ROI

Consistent brand impressions, even without opens, reinforce your marketing efforts and brand recall.

Future-Proof Email Security

Align with the latest email security standards required by Google and Yahoo for bulk senders.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main difference between VMC and CMC?
The primary difference is the trademark requirement. A Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) requires a registered trademark and enables logo display across all BIMI-supporting providers including Gmail and Apple Mail. A Common Mark Certificate (CMC) does not require a registered trademark but has more limited support for logo display.
Do I need DMARC to get a BIMI certificate?
Yes. Before your BIMI logo will display, your domain must be DMARC authenticating with a policy of 'p=quarantine' (at 100%) or 'p=reject'. This ensures that only authorized emails from your domain are delivered.
What image format is required for the logo?
BIMI requires your logo to be in Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) Tiny Portable/Secure (PS) format. This is a strict subset of SVG designed to be secure and performant in email clients.
How long does the validation process take?
The validation process typically takes 1-3 business days for VMCs, provided all documentation (including trademark proof) is in order. CMC validation can be faster as it doesn't require trademark verification.
